Southeast Wisconsin real estate data shows hot streak continued in 3rd quarter

Asking rents for office space are climbing, new stores are opening and the leasing activity for industrial buildings is still outpacing the high level of new building construction. In all, the third quarter of 2016 brought more strong data for southeastern Wisconsin. The Commercial Association of Realtors Wisconsin and Xceligent released the numbers Tuesday. The office market continued to look good. The region counted 150,722 square feet of positive net absorption, a figure showing the amount of…

Plumbing Billionaire Herbert Kohler Selling Captiva Island Home

Herbert V. Kohler Jr.

Billionaire businessman Herbert Kohler Jr. has listed his 4,400-square-foot Florida vacation home on exclusive North Captiva Island for sale for $5.7 million. Kohler is the chairman of the Kohler Co., a manufacturing company best known for its plumbing products.

The three-bedroom, 4.5-bath home was built in 1994 and sits on more than 6.5 acres on the corner of Red Fish Pass, at the southern end of the island.

The island is accessible by boat, ferry, or light airplane. No cars are allowed—people get around on electric golf carts, by bicycles, and on foot. Roughly half of the island’s 700 acres are undeveloped state parkland.

It’s home to a handful of restaurants with names like Barnacle Phil’s, a convenience store, and an ice cream parlor called the Pirate’s Stash. Commercial electricity and phone service arrived at the island in the 1980s. White-sand beaches and palm trees abound.

Kohler’s home sits on the largest parcel in Upper Captiva Shores. It features two guest suites with separate entrances and lofts for more guests. A handcarved wooden staircase leads to the master bedroom on the top level, which has unbeatable views of the Gulf of Mexico and “endless water, endless sunrises and sunsets,” the listing reads. The home’s multiple decks overlook a private dock with boat lift.

Naturally, the plumbing fixtures in the home are incredible. “No expense was spared, with intricate details inside the home, with top-of-the-line fixtures, steam shower, outdoor showers, spa, and elevated endless pool,” the listing reads.

Kohler took over his family’s private, Wisconsin-based business in 1972 and ran it until 2015, when his son, David, assumed the role of CEO. Forbes estimates his net worth at $8.8 billion.

Chiefs QB Nick Foles Bought SoCal Home Weeks Before Rams Let Him Go

Nick Foles

Rich Schultz/Getty Images

NFL quarterback Nick Foles recently closed on a $2.7 million home in Newport Beach, CA, that’s perfect for a member of the Los Angeles Rams: It’s 15 minutes away from the team’s training camp and 45 minutes away from Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The only problem is, Foles doesn’t play for the Rams anymore.

Two weeks before closing on the house, Foles, 27, was cut loose by the Rams and eventually signed on with the Kansas City Chiefs, raising the question of whether he plans to keep his new home in Southern California.

You couldn’t fault him for wanting to keep it: The 4-bedroom, 5-bath, nearly 4,100-square-foot custom home was built in 2014 and features high-end finishes throughout.

The home’s large kitchen is anchored by a center island, marble countertops, a walk-in pantry, and white, Shaker-style cabinetry. It includes light, wide-plank hardwood floors, two dens, a two-sided fireplace in the great room, gas fire pit in the backyard, and a three-car garage.

Foles had a short run with the Rams. The team acquired him in a trade in early 2015, and signed him to a two-year, $24.5 million extension later that year. But his performance last season was uneven, and in April, the Rams selected quarterback-of-the-future Jared Goff, with the first overall pick of the 2016 NFL draft. In late July, Foles asked to be released, and signed with the Chiefs, agreeing to a one-year, $1.75 million deal.

Just days after signing with Kansas City, Foles closed on his new home in Newport Beach. A week after closing on the home, he was back in Los Angeles—this time, playing in a preseason game against his former team. The Rams ultimately won the game, 21-20.

Now biding his time as a backup behind Chiefs QB Alex Smith, Foles made the Pro Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, after throwing for nearly 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Chinese Star Edison Chen Buys L.A. Home With Model Girlfriend

Edison Chen

Gareth Gay/Getty Images

Only three months after Edison Chen and a Victoria’s Secret model were seen kissing in public, the two purchased a lovely new home together in Los Angeles. Is Chen, who’s never had an issue finding a female companion, finally ready to settle down?

The 4,353-square-foot, five-bedroom home they purchased is located near the Hollywood Studio District. They paid $2.85 million for the brand-new home in mid-August.

The open-plan living room features massive retractable glass pocket doors that extend the living space into an amazing serene outdoor backyard complete with a swimming pool and spa.

The home also features an all-glass bathroom. Privacy must not be paramount for the former star of the Hong Kong film industry.

Chen rose to fame in 2002 for his supporting role in the movie “Internal Affairs,” a legend in the Hong Kong film industry that was later remade as “The Departed.” He quit acting in 2008 after intimate photographs of him and various women were illegally distributed over the Internet. The scandal and its fallout dominated national headlines in China for weeks. Despite his retirement, Chen has continued to pop up on the big screen in feature films outside Hong Kong.

He now spends most of his time running his fashion brand CLOT. Last year, his business broke the $10 million mark in annual revenue, according to the Straits Times.

In May, tabloids reported Chen was dating 25-year-old Chinese supermodel Qin Shupei, who was previously married to a Chinese businessman. When their relationship surfaced, Qin’s husband was furious, claiming they had not officially divorced.

At $175M, Connecticut’s Most Expensive Home Is an Island Unto Itself

Great Island, up for grabs at only $175 million

realtor.com

No man is an island, but a few luxury homes are—specifically, this 63-acre island, which belongs to the descendants of a baking powder mogul. This magnificent property in Darien, CT, is now up for sale at $175 million. A buyer would be staring down a mortgage of $900,000 per month—after providing a 20% down payment of $35 million!

However, with this pricey property, we doubt a buyer will be fretting over the monthly mortgage payment. We smell cash and lots of it. The Connecticut manse is currently the second most expensive home in the land, trailing only a $195 million estate in Florida. Naturally, it snagged the title of most expensive home in the Nutmeg State by a wide margin, besting the Thimble Islands by nearly $100 million.

Details of the home on the island, known simply as Great Island, are shrouded in mystery because there are no interior photos available. We know the original owner of the estate was William Ziegler, a founder of the Royal Baking Powder Co. He bought the island and built the main house around 1902; the estate has been kept within the family ever since.

The main house took over 200 stone masons to build. The island also features several small homes, a massive stable with a tiled ceiling fashioned to look like a concourse in Grand Central Station, an 1800s house, a caretaker’s house, beach homes, and a cove that can be used to secure boats in case of a storm.

If it sells, Great Island will break the “most expensive home ever sold” record, a title currently held by an East Hampton estate that hedge fund manager Barry Rosenstein bought for $147 million in 2014.

Naturally, there are horses. Naturally, there are horses.
