Think Pink: A Louisiana Landmark Is This Week’s Most Popular Home

We’ve seen just about everything in our weekly look at the most-clicked homes on realtor.com®. From “barndominiums” to a home covered in empty beer cans to a residence carved out of a cave, we’re used to seeing the weird and wonderful side of real estate.

But we’ve never seen a house quite like this week’s first-place finisher. Located in Monroe, LA, it’s a house plopped atop a nine-story building. It looks like a single-family home kinda-sorta grafted onto a sky-rise. According to the listing agent, anyone who’s ever cruised Interstate 20 through Louisiana knows this place.

While it’s a distinctive landmark for travelers, it used to stick out even more. Called the “Pink House,” it was previously painted pink and sat atop a brown building. Well, the house is no longer painted a shade of blush, but it is for sale. If you’re up for acquiring a Louisiana landmark, the ninth-floor residence can be yours for only $1.1 million.

You also clicked on the California home of the NFL’s most controversial player, the most expensive home in the Hamptons, and a cute New Jersey Colonial that didn’t last long on the open market.

For more on those homes and other intriguing tales of real estate, read on.

Why it’s here: After just a week on the market, this Colonial with modern touches generated multiple offers. Listing agent Ben Garrison told us the market in Maplewood moves fast, and a lack of inventory forces buyers to act quickly if they want to live in this quaint suburban town. Garrison said the six-bedroom home’s beauty and location helped to clinch a quick deal.

1. 223 S Grand St Unit 901, Monroe, LA

Price: $1,100,000
Why it’s here: If you’ve ever driven on Interstate 20 through Louisiana, you’re familiar with this house. Listing agent Nick Olson said this house built on top of a nine-story building used to be painted pink. “If you ask anyone who’s been through Monroe about the Pink House, they’ll know about this place,” says Olson.

Olson also told us the house comes with a wild history, but it’s been tamed, painted, and renovated over the past decade. Now sedately decorated and offering amazing views of the Ouachita River, this ninth-floor perch is the priciest place per square foot in the city.

“There are no comparables for this place. It’s historic, and there’s nothing else like it in the area.”
