Amazon’s Alexa is quickly making its way into the automotive realm. Ford and Genesis drivers can remotely control their vehicles from inside their homes with Alexa, and now, Kia is bringing Alexa into the car shopping experience.
Kia has launched Niro Skill for Amazon Alexa. You can ask Alexa anything about the new Kia Niro crossover, from questions about local dealer inventory to product specifications. As Amazon explains, some examples include, “Ask Kia Niro about pricing,” “Ask Kia Niro what its miles per gallon is,” and “How much space does it have?” Users can even schedule a test drive via Alexa.
“The future is now with user-friendly interfaces such as Amazon Alexa, and Kia is focused on giving our customers convenience and flexibility in the mobile way today’s shoppers are looking for,” said Kia Motors America marketing director Kimberley Gardiner in a release.
During the first half of the year, Kia sold 12,676 copies of the hybrid crossover. The model arrived in dealerships earlier this year with a 1.6-liter inline-four engine paired to an electric motor for a total output of 139 hp. In our First Test, the Niro hit 60 mph from a standstill in 8.7 seconds.
Genesis enabled Amazon Alexa capability earlier this year, allowing G80 and G90 owners to remotely adjust climate controls, lock or unlock the doors, and make other commands through an Alexa-equipped home device. Ford is introducing these home functions, in addition to launching Alexa capability inside the car via the Sync 3 infotainment system.
